To the Head, Secret. I saw 300 and authentically learnt

that the British Ambassador will proceed to Chungking at

the end of March, or the beginning of April. Moreover,

his wife will return to England soon, so he will be staying

for over a month in Chungking. The people in general

suspect that Britain will change her attitude towards the

Far East after her recognition of the Franco Government.

In fact such action is not beyond the original policy of

Chamberlain, so it will not affect (China) at all. Again,

he reported in his previous telegram that a copy of an

important document of over 130 pages was received from

Craigie (Sir Robert), and that he would try and photostat

it secretly, and submit it for you to see. If required, he

intends to buy the photostat and enlarging machines, as

already approved, in order to deal with the matter.

Submitted for instructions please.
